Fascinating Florida Part 1

2/26/2018

Spring 2018 is dedicated to Florida, you can make a round trip with me starting and arriving to Miami in the end. Let's reveal the different faces of this state! In March we will visit Miami, Daytona beach, the NASA and crazy theme parks around Orlando. Discover the Orange county with me!

Miami - the multicultural city

The city is real metropolis: sunny beaches with huge stretch of white sand, lovely weather, chic restaurants, world-class boutiques. At the first sight the place is just so posh and cool, it’s famous for being the ultimate party playground for rich and famous. Due to the jet-lag I woke up so early, I was able to catch the sunrise and had a walk on the beach. Nothing beats a walk early morning: crashing waves, untouched sand, peaceful atmosphere.

The Harrison Hotel in Miami was simple, but clean and it was just an easy walk to the beach. I was amazed by the huge yachts, the dazzling city.

Culinary programs

There are a lot of restaurants with Latin influence and Cuban atmosphere. If you are interested in such tours, enroll to a food tour downtown:  Havana and the South Beach Food Tours are the best.

Daytona Beach - Born to be wild!

Just a few hours ride to the North we arrive to the world's most famous beach. It's a unique place of the Atlantic coast: Great, wide sandy beach, endless ocean, there is always something going on here. The whole beach is a party place and Daytona especially comes alive when the yearly Bike Week is organized. This year they celebrate the 77th anniversary. It's a street festival with bike shows, races, concerts all week. I was lucky to drop by last time and checked it out for 2 days. If you are seeking for relaxation, avoid this time of the year! The city also hosts February’s iconic NASCAR race.

Beach time
I was staying at Boardwalk Inn & Suites, it's a perfectly located hotel a few steps away from the beach, plus the biker programs were nearby. Daytime I was admiring the ocean, had a sunbath and a good swim in the pool.

Kennedy Space Center - Road to space

After the Daytona party nights, I was heading to the South to visit the Kennedy Space Center complex.  It's NASA's primary launch center of human spaceflight, the Apollo launch was carried out here as well, Elon Musk's Falcon Heavy's successful trial started here last month. The Apollo moon landing was a very important moment in history, what you can also experience with 3D theatrical elements at the NASA center. The whole place is very well organized, guided tours take place several times a day. It's so exciting to experience a rocket launch, you can hear the roar and feel the rumble under your feet. Priceless experience!

Orlando's huge playgrounds

Sea World
If you are a fan of thrilling coasters, beautiful aquariums and entertainment at all levels, Sea World is for you. The place is kid-friendly as well. There are numerous special rides, the Manta coaster is unique all over the world. It's a ray-shaped train reaching top speeds of 56 miles per hour (90 km/h). Craziness on top! There are other fun coasters, like the Atlantis and the Kraken (see below).

Walt Disney World

I visited Walt Disney World with my parents when I was 16, since that I was back to Florida a few times. We spent a whole week at the Disney complex. Unfortunately I don't have many photos about it. It's a magical entertainment park near Orlando. If you have time and you appreciate these kind of theme parks, don't miss the chance to visit it! I personally enjoyed two sites the most: The Animal Kingdom, it's completely dedicated to nature and animals, it's like a magical zoo. The other one is the EPCOT center. It consists of fun rides and world showcases, in the frame of that you can visit different countries around the world, taste their food, deep into the culture and see what other countries have to offer. I remember the gorgeous fireworks each night before closing. It's a place, that's suitable for families as well.

Every time I visit Austria, I make a short stop at my favorite Parndorf outlet. It's close to the Hungarian border, there are over 160 designer shops at valuable prices.

The last topic of this season is the romantic Salzburg and the Mondsee in Austria. There is so much to discover here. Walk in the city with me and try the a fabulous, traditional hotel at the Mondsee!

City walk & sightseeing

The symbol of Salzburg is the Hohensalzburg Castle. The nicely preserved fortress looms over the city. It's one of the largest medieval castles in Europe dating back to the year 1077. A really authentic place with a stunning view. There are two ways to get to the castle, either take the vernacular railway, or simply walk. Inside the castle there is Fortress Museum. You can learn about the history of the fortress and the early inhabitants. Pretty impressive!

Mozart House

The city is famous for being the birthplace of Amadeus Mozart, who is one of the world's greatest composers. There are two sites dedicated here to Mozart: his birthplace (Hagenauerhaus) and his former home, these are the most visited museums in the city. Getreidegasse nr 9 is the place where Mozart's family lived for more than 25 years. Later on they moved to a place what we know today as the Mozart Residence at the Makartplatz Square. Why to visit these sights? You will have a deeper look at Mozart's personal life, portraits, letters and historical instruments are presented here.

We often refer to the city as the "Rome of the North". No wonder, you can see a nicely preserved, baroque architecture here. The role of the prince-archbishops was dominating in the history. The churches and the little, romantic streets make you feel like you are back in time.

Shopping street

The center of the city is truly charming, have a walk, do some shopping and enjoy the atmosphere: Iron guild signs, cozy courtyards, narrow streets.

Best Sacher cake in town

Café Sacher is an emblematic, traditional place in Salzburg, tasting their famous cake is quite a cultural experience.  I was already telling you about the cake in the Vienna topic. The Cafehouse is an elegant, classy design, it's overlooking the river. Stuff is professional, they speak an excellent English.

Mondsee region

The popular lake is 30 km far away from Salzburg. What can you expect here? Scenic lakeside promenades, fresh air, clear water and  little, cute villages. If you would like to get to know the Austrian countryside, that's a great place for that. Summertime there are a lot of outdoor activities on the region: beach volleyball, water skiing, swimming. Winter time the lake is peaceful and ideal for long walks and hiking.

I was visiting the region just for a short, weekend relaxation. I was looking for a hotel, that's close to the nature, traditional and has good spa facilities as well. Finally I chose Landhotel Eichingerbauer, I couldn't have made a better choice. At the reception they were really welcoming and helpful. The owner is present all the time and he is taking a very good care of his guests. The rooms and spacious, clean and really comfortable.

The spa section was amazing with heated pool inside and outside, sauna, steam room, plenty of place to just relax. It was snowing in the evening, I enjoyed outside swimming so much.

The restaurant mainly features traditional, Austrian cuisine and local wine. I enjoyed a glass of Velteliner from Wachau Austrian wine region, divine! The service is excellent, food is delicious and the restaurant's interior is luxurious and elegant.

If you have a free weekend and you would like to visit a new place, Salzburg and its region is a perfect choice every season!
