According to a legend, Hercules loved a Nymph, called Amalfi, when she died, he buried her at the most beautiful place in the world, that’s what we call the Amalfi coast today. What comes to my mind first is: Spectacular landscape and history at one place, breathtaking scenery, beautiful gardens, olive grows, little, narrow streets, hidden beaches. Stretching south of the Bay of Naples, winding along the Tyrrhenian Sea. Mild climate: around 10 degrees in winter and 35 maximum in summer time. The whole coastline belongs to UNESCO World Heritage Site. We booked our accommodation in Sorrento. It's perfect, because you can reach the Amalfi coast and even Capri easily. It’s also good to spend a few hours in Sorrento, just wondering around. We found cheap flights to Naples, then rented a car. During these 3 days we discovered the following places on the Amalfi coast: Positano, Amalfi, Ravello. Grand Hotel La Place and the Mount Vesuvius in the background PositanoSince I saw the movie, Under the Tuscan sun, I wanted to visit this region and I have to say I was not disappointed at all. You have a nice view of the colorful houses above, very fashionable and stylish villas. This place used to be a fishing village, it got popular lately. So many actors, celebrities and artists got inspired by this landscape. Just naming a few: Ingrid Bergman, Pablo Picasso, Elizabeth Taylor. Even ancient Romans loved to spend their holiday on this coast. The way you can get fit here is actually climbing the ancient stairs of the city. It’s good walking around and taking a few shots on the volcanic gray sandy beach and the spectacular landscape. During summer season, it’s perfect to lay on the beach and relaxing, Spiaggia Grande is the longest beach on the Amalfi coast. AmalfiAnother charming city on the coast, in the center you can find the Arab-Sicilian cathedral of Sant’ Andrea Apostolo with its marvelous flight of steps and cloister. It has a small beach, but it’s fairly crowded during summer. Local crafts can be purchased everywhere. If you get hungry, where can you get the best fish? In the bay, of course! Always a good idea to drop by! Relax and enjoy”la dolce vita”! RavelloRavello rises three hundred meters above the Tyrrhenian Sea. Panoramic viewpoints at Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone are absolutely breathtaking, they are overlooking the Mediterranean sea. Villa Cimbrone is a hotel now, but it used to be the spot for romantic rendezvous for Great Garbo and her lover. Food and drinks One of the world’s most beloved cuisine is the Italian. I always like to check the seasonal, fresh ingredients. During autumn the harvest offers the best options, like mushrooms. They put it in pasta, pizza, even in meat dishes. In November it’s very typical to eat pumpkin, try in ravioli. You start to smell chestnuts all around, very nice street food. November is the pick month of the very expensive truffles, Italians enjoy its flavor in sauce, pasta and even omelet. On the Amalfi coast you can enjoy Limoncello liqueur, it's made of fresh, Italian lemons. If you prefer wine, you are at the right place. Let's not forget that in this region wine making goes back thousands of years. The volcanic soil and the grape varieties let us produce high quality, premium wine. Now let`s combine Amalfi style with the latest fashion trends.
