Natural wonders in the USA

1/2/2019

Best start of the year: The winter months of 2019 will be dedicated to the USA national parks. Every time I'm traveling to America, I find beautiful places to discover. Here is a summary of three natural wonders I visited in the past: Grand Canyon, Death Valley and the Everglades. This issue will be dedicated to the various activities in the parks. All places have something unique and mysterious, follow my footsteps to America!

Grand Canyon - the Nr1 beauty

Grand Canyon National Park is probably the most well-known one in the world. Incredible size and colorful formations, the walls are reflecting different shades of yellow, red and nude colors. Unbelievable sight all year-round. The canyon was carved by the Colorado river over many centuries and it's one of the most visited places in the USA. Generally on the canyon read my article HERE.

A helicopter ride over the national park is a must-do activity in the region. Perfect for all ages, but even for a romantic moment. I chose the Sundance Helicopter services, I loved every minute of it: Pick-nick in the valley and amazing views. The region has so much to offer if it comes to programs, even if these activities are quite pricey, but one in a lifetime experience for sure.

If you stay in Las Vegas, you have several options to visit the national park: Helicopter, bus or limousin ride. Horseshoe bend is very popular place located close to the town of Page in Arizona. 200 million years ago massive sand covered the whole region, which became petrified by the nature (water and minerals) and these are the stones we can admire today. There are so many specific tours featuring this sight. I've found many options HERE, it's good to book your tour in advance. Wear comfortable clothes, bring along hats and sunscreen. You will fully discover the Canyon, learn about geology and history. What a relaxing day surrounded by nature!

If you are up for more adventures, visit the region from a different perspective: river floating tours allow you to observe nature from the water. You can choose between half-day and full-day trips. The tour starts with a two-mile tunnel ride and lets you explore the Glen Canyon. You will hear stories about people who lived here and the Horseshoe Bend itself.

Inside the Canyon

Going for extreme? This rafting tour is something for you! The tour also includes hiking and sightseeing in the Grand Canyon. You will sleep in a camp at ancient Indian ruins, lunch and dinner is provided. This program is all about being close to nature for one day. A truly memorable experience for sure!

Death Valley National Park

This place is the land of extremes, how they call it: the hottest, the lowest and driest spot in the USA. This wild region includes deep canyons, rolling sand dunes and oases. From Las Vegas you can reach the park within a 2-hour-ride. Native people have been here since at least the end of the last Ice Age. Mining camps were created here. Today it's a national park visited by people all around the world.

How did it get their name from? It's referring to the Californian Gold Rush, when people wanted to cross the valley on their way to the gold fields. A group of pioneers were lost here in the winter of 1849, finally only one of the group died, the valley became their grave.

Are you staying here for a day or for a whole week? You can choose from different kind of activities. Check out the dunes tours HERE. You can also spend a full day trekking in the largest national park in the USA, highlighting the most spectacular sights in the region. For more tours go HERE. There are some different view points, where you can have a panoramic view, you can access most of these spots by car. I personally visited the Dante's view. Are you ready for some mysterious scene? There used to be communities in the region, that experienced a fall down quickly. These towns were build due to the mining business in the area, but as soon as the factories closed, the places became ghost towns. It's sad and moving indeed, when you're surrounded by the vestiges of abandoned homes. Book a Ghost town tour and feel the history!

The whole place is full of surprises, precious nature, small oases and natural wonders. It feels like being on another planet. Let me know how you liked this national park and what activities did you try!

Everglades National Park in Florida

The third park I visited and I was so fascinated about was definitely Everglades. Florida is a charming place already, but experiencing the tropical wilderness shows you a different face of the Orange County.

The first place you should contact is the Ernest Coe Visitor Center, where you can book your tours and have an overview on the national park. Besides visiting the alligator farm, you can book an airboat trip. Even the kids will enjoy the tour. it's like a safari in the wilderness, join the alligator show and pet a baby animal! Special trips are offered like after the airboat ride you can actually swim with manatees. If you are looking for something more active, choose the walking tour, where you can explore the highlands of Big Cypress National Preserve or the wetlands of Everglades. The whole place has a special, mysterious atmosphere. Admire the nature, the wild life and free your mind!
